Foundation
Many parallels can be found between the foundations of Swedish Lorry Parts and Midwest Industrial Sales. In his educational years, founder Lars Hedlund balanced schooling and driving (taxis, trucks). Because of these experiences, he discovered a need for affordable vehicle accessories.
This process continued for many years, as the company kept growing. Setting aside law studies at Stockholm University, Hedlund took this venture to a whole new level. He began visiting manufacturers to learn the in-depth process of production. Shortly after, he was drawing and designing his own components which would launch Swedish Lorry Parts into a new era.
Growth
Swedish Lorry Parts provides for a wide variety of vehicles. Between the 1970s and early 2000s, SLP has served marine engines and power systems, trucks, buses, and heavy equipment for Volvo machines. Then they expanded to include Scania trucks and buses.
Overall, Hedlund has founded twelve companies across the world. While many have been sold, they decided in the 2000s to focus solely on Swedish Lorry Parts.
Current State
As they’ve grown, SLP is now a common name in the industry. They produce 13,500 parts, adding around 1,500 new products every year. Known around the world, their 100,000 shipments span across 91 countries.
